How to Make a Throw Pillow With No-Sew Cape
Throw pillows add design elements to living areas and bedrooms. You can make your own no-sew capes, or covers, for throw pillows to complement the décor of your room. Find plain throw pillow forms at your local fabric store, along with fabric and supplies to create permanent or removable capes. You can also cover your existing throw pillows and transform them to fit your new style.

Removable No-Sew Cape
-
1
Measure the length and width of your throw pillow form.
-
2
Measure and cut two sections of fabric equal to the width of the throw pillow, plus 1 inch, and the length, plus 1 inch. The added inch allows for the seams where you will place the Velcro strips.
-
-
3
Lay the two fabric sections face down on a flat surface. Measure and fold back a 1-inch strip around the perimeter of each fabric section, pinning the fold together with straight pins as you go.
-
4
Iron the folded seams flat. Remove the pins.
-
5
Place a strip of self-adhesive Velcro along all the ironed seams. Place the throw pillow form on top of one of the fabric sections. Place the other fabric section on top of the pillow form and connect the Velcro strips.
Permanent No-Sew Cape
-
6
Measure the length and width of your pillow form.
-
7
Measure and cut two sections of fleece fabric equal to the width of the throw pillow plus 6 inches, and the length of your throw pillow plus 6 inches. The added inches around the perimeter of the pillow will allow you to tie the fleece and enclose the pillow form. Fleece knots easier than most fabrics and will make a soft, washable cape for your throw pillow.
-
8
Place the fleece sections back to back. Pin the sections together 6 inches from the edge, all the way around the perimeter.
-
9
Place a flat ruler from the pins to the outside edge and draw a chalk line along either side of the ruler. Work your way around the perimeter of the pillow, marking evenly spaced lines.
-
10
Cut the lines from the outside edge to the pins. Tie the top section to the bottom section of fleece together with a double overhand knot. Work your way around three sides of the pillow, tying the knots. Remove the pins as you go. Remove the pins from the fourth side. Insert the pillow form and knot the remaining sections of fleece together.
