Being in business for yourself has many advantages. If you like dogs, the outdoors and want to help people with their pet needs, I can tell you how to entrepreneur a dog walking business with success.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Look at the reasons why you want to begin your dog walking business. One of the first things you will need to be is very dependable. Pet owners are depending on you to get their pets outside while they are away. You have the activity of the dog in your hands, so you will need to show up as scheduled, or inform the dog owners beforehand if you cannot perform those duties for the canines. If you are personally responsible for saying what you will do and then following through, you will easily get referrals with excellent references.

  2. Step 2

Sincerely examine your temperament. If you are willing to be gentle and kind to the dogs, you will probably get them to do all you need them to and happily too. Never consider hitting a dog. You might get the worst end of that disagreement, cause that animal injury or mental anguish.

  3. Step 3

Do you like dogs and are not intimidated by them? If you think you can be calm and soft spoken as well as stern and protect them, you are ready to seek to be an entrepreneur in a dog walking business. Set your fees and be reasonable since your base will grow if you charge a fair price.

  4. Step 4

Visit the local veterinarians in your neighborhood and inform them you want to help dog owners with walking their dogs when they are gone. If you do not have any work references, give people that know your character and use them as references. Ask those people first before just giving out their names and phone numbers. Leave your name and phone number on a 3X5 card with the veterinarians you visit. Return in less than a week to follow up to remind them of your sincerity of wanting to help dog owners with the pet care.

  5. Step 5

Place and ad in the local medical offices or clinic, if they allow such a notice. If not, ask if the receptionist knows of anyone who might be looking to hire your services. As people come in with a need, you will be remembered if you leave a 3X5 card with your name, phone number and dog walker on it too.

  6. Step 6

Go to the Travel agencies, construction of new home sites to talk with contractors, local libraries, Post Office and Senior Centers. Leave several 3X5 cards with all your information on it to contact you. Make sure you revisit those places in less than a week to see, remind and let people know your sincerity to be walking dogs for a business.
