How to Properly Put The Training Collar On A Dog

Believe it or not, there is a right and wrong way to put a training collar on a dog. If you put it on incorrectly the collar which is commonly called the choke collar will not work correctly and when you release the pressure from the correction, it will not loosen.

• A dog
• A slip type training collar

1. Step one is to stand in front of your dog facing him or her. It's a good idea to ask your dog to sit while doing this. Many dogs fuss and wiggle while the owners are trying to put a collar on them. That's why it's a good idea to get them in the habit of sitting and behaving.

2. Step two is to orient the caller so that it looks like the letter P when you hold it out in front of you. If it looks like the letter Q then you're holding it backwards.

3. Step three is to slide the callar over the dog's head maintaining the proper orientation so that it looks like the letter P. Now your dog is wearing the training collar properly and it will be most effective in its use.
