Difficulty: Moderately Challenging

  1. Step 1

Receiving adequate sleep is critical for over all physical and mental health. The amount of sleep required to function varies from person to person. Some people require eight hours of sleep; some people can function on five hours.

  2. Step 2
    sedatives

Insomnia is a real problem that affects millions of Americans. Traditional therapy for chronic insomnia was the use of prescription drugs. Prescription sedatives may work but they are addictive and they can reduce the amount of time a person spends in REM sleep.

  3. Step 3

There are number of ways to cure insomnia without resorting to dangerous drugs. First, try not eating anything for about 2-3 hours prior to going to bed for the night. In addition, believe it or not warm milk does seem to have a tranquilizing effect on a number of people.

  4. Step 4

Finally, try to avoid stress, excessive amounts of caffeine, stimulant drugs and alcohol. One drink may make your drowsy; however more than one drink can actually cause you to become restless and it will interfere with natural restful sleep. Sweet Dreams!!
