How to curve a soccer ball

Have you wondered how the pro soccer players get the ball to swerve? Well, if you follow these instructions and practice with them you will be able to too! Getting the ball to curve gives you a big advantage in the game.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Soccer ball
  1. Step 1
Strike the ball at the red marker with your laces.

Let's start with backspin. To get good basckspin on the ball you need to hit it near the bottom center woth your laces. With this method you can hit a long ball like a goal kick or drive a hard shot at the net.

  2. Step 2
(right footed) Strike the ball at the red marker with the inside of your foot.

Next try the inward swerve. This is the more popular one. Usually when you don't hit the ball with your laces you give it this swerve. Many people do this without even knowing what they are doing, but here's what you need to do. You want to hit the ball with more of the inside of your foot on the outside of the ball. This causes the ball to spin to the inside, giving it that inward swerve.

  3. Step 3
(right footed) Strike the ball at the red marker with the outside of your foot.

Lastly, the outward swerve. This one tends to be more difficult. It starts with your plant foot. Instead of it being next to the ball, it needs to be at a comfortable distance behind it. You then swing your leg across the ball, striking the inside of it, causing it to spin the outside. This makes it swerve outward.

Tips & Warnings
  • Start slow, do it against a wall without running up to it.
  • Focus on getting the ball to spin the way you want before going full force.
  • If kicking against a wall watch for the bounce back...
