How to Locate the Lowest Gasoline Price Locally
In the past, if you wanted to compare gas prices, you had to either page through the phone book and call each gas station, or you had to drive around and see whose prices were the cheapest. Today, that process is far simpler. Using the Internet, you can compare pump prices at local gas stations from your home computer or your mobile phone in just a matter of seconds. If you plan to take a trip, you can just as easily scout out the cheapest gas locales along the route.

1
Visit a gas comparison website on your home computer or download an application for your mobile phone. At your desktop, you will be asked to enter a location by ZIP code, city or state. GPS functionality on your mobile phone should allow you to target the gas stations nearest your location. Some popular gas comparison websites include GasBuddy, Mapquest Gas Prices and the U.S. Department of Energy's Fuel Economy Database.

2
Sort gas stations by your own list criteria. You may want to simply sort by price, but you can also sort by distance from location as well as available pumps. For example, if you drive a diesel automobile, you can narrow your search to display only those gas stations with diesel pumps. Other search criteria might include public restrooms, convenience marts or truck stop facilities.

Locate the gas station using the map feature on the gas comparison website or mobile application. From the desktop, you should be able to print directions to a particular station by typing in your starting address. Mobile phones again have the added feature of GPS positioning, which can easily map the quickest route from your current location to the station.

4
Use the contact information for the gas station if you have any questions. For example, if you specifically need a gas station that sells lottery tickets, you can easily locate the phone number in the contact information listed on the gas comparison website. If using a mobile phone, the application will likely allow you to simply click on the phone number to dial the station. These features make it easy and convenient to not only shop for the best gas prices in town, but also know exactly what each gas station offers in terms of additional features.
