Oops! You were washing dishes and your ring went down the drain with the rest of the soapy leftover dishwater. Now what? Follow these simple steps to rescue your ring!

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Wrench
  • Bucket
  • Elbow Grease ;)
  1. Step 1

Turn off the water. First, you will obviously turn off the faucet. Next, turn off the main valve under the sink.

  2. Step 2

Set a bucket under the pipe trap. The pipe trap is the "U" shaped curve right before the pipe goes into the wall.

  3. Step 3

Use a wrench to loosen the large nuts on the sides of the trap. Once they are loose, you will need to remove them by hand and pull the trap off the pipe. Dump it and its contents into the bucket. Your jewelry should be right there (there will probably be some "ick" in there too.. wear gloves if you don't want to touch it).

  4. Step 4

Don't forget to replace the trap and tighten the nuts. Do not over-tighten.

Tips & Warnings
  • Enlist the help of a friend if you don't want to get dirty. :)
  • Be sure to replace the trap and tighten the nuts. Use your hand at first and then a final partial twist with the wrench.
