Step 1
Eat prior to any holiday meals. This can be anything from an apple to a nutritious meal. Drinking water before eating can also help a person to feel more full, which will help stop a person from overeating at meal times. This step is probably the easiest of all of these steps to implement and really will help you to avoid weight gain during the holidays because you are much less likely to overeat.

Step 2
Maintain a workout program. Working out helps your body burn calories and can help one to maintain or even lose weight and avoid weight gain. Do an extra workout or workout for a longer period of time if you feel you have eaten to much. Your body will burn up some excess calories and help to prevent weight gain.

Step 3
Do an extra workout or workout for a longer period of time if you feel you have eaten to much. Your body will burn up some excess calories and help to prevent weight gain.

Step 4
Make healthy food choices. Although meals may contain foods that are high in fat and calories, make healthy food selections. Think fruits, vegetables, whole grains and lean meats.
-
Step 5
Control food portions and don't fill your plate so full of food it's overflowing. Don't allow your eyes to be bigger than your stomach. Just take small portions of the foods you'd like to eat. (Refer back to step 1 as this will greatly help you to control portion sizes)

Step 6
Limit alcohol intake. Alcoholic beverages can help people gain weight in no time. Averaging at least 150-200 calories per serving and increasing from there, aim for no more than 1 alcoholic beverage. There are no nutrients in these types of drinks so you're filling your body up with empty calories that are likely to be stored as fat unless exercise is used to burn them up.

Step 7
Eat dessert. Don't think that you have to skip dessert to avoid weight gain. Either take a really small portion so you can satisfy your sweet craving or share dessert with a loved one.
