You may need to make your Word document, Excel spreadsheet, or PowerPoint slides more interesting or understandable by adding images. This is easy to do once you understand the basic steps, but can be a bit frustrating at first. The easiest way to add an image is to use clip art or a picture/photo file already on your computer.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • An Office software application that allows for images
  • Clip Art CD or image fiel on computer
  1. Step 1
    Clip Art Pane

With desired Office application file open and after moving to the location where image is to be inserted, use menu options Insert, and then Picture.

Then from the sub-menu, select one of the following:

    - Clip Art. Will bring up pane on left of screen. Use the search function within the pane to find the desired clip art. Then select the desired image from those available in the Clip Art by clicking on the image in list to add it to the file or using Insert if you have an older version. If the image desired is not there, then use the Import Clips option to bring image into clip art collection.

    - Or the select From File to bring up a window to look for an image on the computer. Find the desired image file and use Insert button to add it to open file.

  2. Step 2

Set image in desired location and area by moving, resizing, or rotating it.

    - Move image by clicking on it and then holding down the mouse to drag it to a new location.

    - Resize the image by clicking on one of the sizers (circle or square on selected image depending on the version being used) in a corner and dragging with mouse outward to make it larger or inward to make it smaller. Let go of the mouse once the image is the desire size. Clicking on a size that is not in the corner will distort the image, so use Undo if this is done accidentally to begin again.

    - If the image can be rotated, it will have a green circle at the top. Click and drag the circle in the direction to rotate the image.

  3. Step 3
    Format Picture Window

If the image should appear on top of another graphic or text item, and this is not desired, then right-click on the image to get an option menu for formatting.

    - From the pop-up menu, select Order, then Send to Back to put it behind the text or graphic.

    - Or use the Format Picture option to get a pop-up window. From the window, select the Layout tab to decide how to wrap text around an image.

  4. Step 4
    Save Icon

Be sure to save the file once picture is the way you desire it before continuing work, as you would hate to lose all the effort you just did with other changes or a computer lock-up/crash.
