All men should learn how to prevent prostate cancer naturally, but especially men between the ages of 40 and 50. For years prostate cancer was considered a disease of elderly men. Since prostate cancers generally grow slowly, many men did not know they had cancer until it was too late. Nowadays medical tests, such as the prostate-specific antigen (PSA), are able to diagnose prostate cancer in its early stages. Tests such as these have proven that men as young as 40 or even younger can develop prostate cancer. The good news is there are multiple natural prostate cancer prevention methods available today. Prostate cancer risk may be reduced through prostate cancer nutrition, herbal remedies, and alternative medical approaches.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Maintain a daily fluid intake of 8 to 12 glasses per day. This will help increase urination, which will help to maintain a clean urinary tract. Use pomegranate juice as part of your daily fluid intake. I t has been found that drinking 8 oz. of pomegranate juice daily slowed down the PSA levels in men who had prostate cancer.

  2. Step 2

Start a well rounded prostate cancer diet. Since there is a correlation between high red meat consumption and prostate cancer, you may begin avoiding it altogether. Instead eat cereals such as wheat, oats, and bran to maintain a quality protein intake.

  3. Step 3

Eat plenty of cruciferous vegetables. These include broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, and cauliflower. Fruits contain fructose, which is another prostate protecting food, so make sure to consume plenty of apples, berries, cantaloupe, and watermelons. Tomatoes also seem to help in prostate diseases. They contain lycopene, which is said to help prevent prostate cancer and shrink existing tumor size.

  4. Step 4

Increase your zinc intake. The prostate gland uses zinc more than any other body part. Zinc alters steroid hormone metabolism, thus reducing prostate enlargement. Wheat germ oil and pumpkin seeds are rich in zinc.

  5. Step 5

Buy some prostate vitamins. Vitamin D and Vitamin E are antioxidants that may inhibit cancer growth.

  6. Step 6

Add other prostate protecting foods to your diet, such as soy-based foods and garlic. Soy-based foods contain genisten, which is believed to inhibit cancer growth. Garlic possesses sulfur-containing compounds that help fight cancer.

  7. Step 7

Try herbal products such as saw palmetto, pygeum, cernilton, and stinging nettle. Saw palmetto reduces prostate enlargement by inhibiting DHT and helping to eliminate it by lowering estrogen levels. Pygeum, which is obtained from tree bark, contains chemicals which also help inhibit prostate enlargement. Cernilton is made from rye pollen and has been successful in treating prostate inflammation. Stinging nettle is a traditional remedy that relieves non-cancerous prostate enlargement.

  8. Step 8

Look into homeopathy treatments for prostate cancer prevention. Unlike other nutritional therapies, homeopathy uses substances (in low doses) that cause symptoms of illness in the body to help cure these same symptoms found in patients. Homeopathic remedies for prostate disorders include Clematis, Chimaphilla Umbellata, Apis, Pulsatilla, Selenium, Staphysagria, Baryta Carb, Kalibic, and Causticum.

  9. Step 9

Find out if there is any doctor or alternative therapy practitioner in your area who uses magnetic field therapy. In some cases it has been found that sitting on a magnet for several hours a day can inhibit tumor growth. If you already have prostate cancer this may be a natural and harmless treatment you might want to look into.

Tips & Warnings
  • These natural preventative and healing approaches should be combined with regular prostate screening exams.
  • Always consult your doctor or physician before starting any one of the above mentioned diets, supplements, or remedies.
