Is my child ready for kindergarten? Preparing your preschool child for kindergarten can be simple with these kindergarten activities. Teaching these activities to your child, prepares your child for kindergarten school.

  1. Step 1

    Most of these items should be taught to your pre kindergarden child via a preschool curriculum. To determine whether or not your child is ready for kindergarten, ask your child the following:

    The pre school child should be able to:
    1. write their own name
    2. Say the days of the week
    3. Recite their address and phone number
    4. Recognize their entire name
    5. Put together a simple puzzle of 3 to 6 pieces

    Preschool education should also include the following:
    6. Your child should be able to alternate feet walking down the stairs.
    7. Zip, button, snap, buckle, dress self and tie their own shoes.
    8. Count 10 objects
    9. Recognize a circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval, heart, diamond, cross
    10. Draw a circle, square, triangle and cross
    11. Use scissors, crayons and glue

  4. Step 4

    The kindergarten teacher will expect your preschool child to:
    12. Hold a pencil correctly
    13. Recite rhyming words
    14. Tell right hand from left
    15. Hop on one foot, jump and stand on one foot
    16. Pay attention to short story and answer questions about it and / or retell the story
    17. Carry out 3 simple errands (pick up the book, bring me the pencil, close the door)

    Preschool curriculum should have prepared your kindergarden student to:
    18. Be able to tell opposites of words
    19. Name 8 basic colors
    20. Know same from different
    21. Put pictures in sequential order

Tips & Warnings
  • Usually, kindergarten homework is minimal. The kindergarten teacher may stress that parents read to their children at home.
  • A kindergarten school physical, dental exam and vision test are required upon entry.
