Could you be having an emotional affair?
Could you be having an emotional affair?

Are you having an emotional affair, without even knowing it? Perhaps you have a friend at work, at church, or somewhere else you're at, a lot.

Is she more than "just a friend?" Of course not. You've never been to her house, and never left work together.

Read on to find out if you're wrapped up in an emotional affair, without even realizing it.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

You develop a friendship. This includes talking with that person every extra minute you have.

While there's nothing wrong with having a friend of the opposite sex, the friendship continues to flourish, until suddenly, she's a secret keeper.

  2. Step 2

You begin to tell your friend secrets. Maybe you're having trouble with your wife, can't stop arguing, or hate to be around her.

The friend involved in an emotional affair suddenly knows too much. Ask yourself this question, "If my wife found out everything we've talked about, would it be appropriate?" If the answer is no, this friendship is headed toward an attraction.

  3. Step 3

You find yourself daydreaming, or fantasizing about your friend.

Remember how it first felt when you fell in love with your wife, or partner? You couldn't stop thinking about her.

What's the difference in back then and your present daydreams? Although the fantasizing may not be directly about the friend, she's involved.

  4. Step 4

You brush off the small things. While it's okay to go to lunch with a friend, suddenly, it's everyday. Small gifts, talking on the phone, and talking a few minutes after work are all small things.

None of the small things, alone, indicate an emotional affair. Put together, they lead to feelings of adventure and new territory.

Tips & Warnings
  • An emotional affair usually turns into a physical one.
