How to Fight the H1N1 Swine Flu Naturally with Vitamins, Diet and Common Sense

This year's health topic is definitely the Swine Flu or H1N1 Flu. This new flu virus is rapidly spreading around the world and was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, WHO, on June 11, 2009.

The H1N1 virus is spread the same as a regular cold or flu - mainly from person to person through coughing or sneezing by people with the influenza virus.

There are several common sense steps you can take to improve your chances of not contracting the swine flu.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Get a flu vaccination or flu shot.

  2. Step 2

    Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.

  3. Step 3

    Carry and use hand sanitizer if you can not wash your hands before eating or other intimate activities.

  4. Step 4

    Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth as much as possible.

  5. Step 5

    Avoid large gatherings of people where you will be in close proximity (within six feet).

  6. Step 6

    According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), if you have another illness that weakens your immune system such as HIV or Aids, you may want to wear a facemask if you will be around people who may already have contacted the H1N1 flu virus.

  7. Step 7

    Stay at home if you are sick.

  8. Step 8

    Take Vitamin D supplements or each foods rich in Vitamin D such as fish. milk or milk products like yougurt. Try to consume two to five thousand mg a day. This vitamin helps your body produce antimicrobial agents.

  9. Step 9

    Eat foods rich in Vitamin A or take a Vitamin A supplement. Foods suck as liver (yuck), sweet potatos, carrots, mango, and spinach are good sources of this nutrient. A warning: Too much Vitamin A can be bad for you especially if you are pregnant. Stick to the recommmended daily allowance (RDA) of 700 to 900 mcg.

  10. Step 10

    Eat lots of citrus fruits and/or juices for Vitamin C or take a Vitamin C pill. This supplement has long been recognized as strengthening your body's natrual immunity.

  11. Step 11

    Take a Zinc supplement of 15 to 25 mg daily.

Tips & Warnings
  • Look for a vitamin supplement that contains all of the vitamins meantioned in this article
