How to Choose a Wardrobe That Flatters Your Figure
Most women know what colors in their wardrobe flatter their skin tones and hair color. Beyond that, think about what clothes flatter your figure type. Start by examining yourself in a full mirror that reflects your figure correctly. Assess your overall body shape or figure type. Decide if your figure fits the hourglass type, the top-heavy type, the bottom-heavy type or middle-heavy type.

1
Wear wrap dresses, belts and fitted bodice jackets and tops if you determine that your overall body type is an hourglass -- your bust and hips are about the same width and your waist is narrow. This body type is flattered by pants that have a slight flair that will help balance your curves.

2
Wear a V-neck top which elongates the chest if you determine that your overall body type is top heavy, that is, most of your weight is in the top half of your figure. Avoid scoop neck tops and horizontal stripes which tend to make your bust appear larger. For clothing below the waist, choose clothing with volume, such as wide leg slacks and a full skirt.

Choose an A-line skirt or dress in dark colors if your overall body type is bottom heavy -- most of your weight is in the bottom half of your figure. In choosing clothing styles, stay away from tapered pant legs and/or light fabric that clings to the legs. For above the waist, concentrate on ruffled or embellished shirts and tops.

Wear a properly fitting bra which will naturally create a visual division or break between your bust and tummy if you determine that your overall body type is middle heavy, or your waist is undefined. In choosing clothing styles, look for am empire waist dress and heavy material that will fall into an A-line appearance. Try concealing your tummy with a blazer or 3/4 length top or blouse.
