Dampen a lint-free cloth with water, and use it to blot the stains. Lightly move the cloth back and forth until the stain is removed, but do not press down too hard as this may permanently flatten the fabric. Use a dry cloth to blot the velvet dry, and remove as much of the moisture as possible.

Once the velvet is completely dry, use a lint brush or new toothbrush to gently brush the area of the stain. This will fluff the velvet fabric back up so that the area blends in with the rest of the velvet.

To wash an entire velvet garment, fill a basin with cold water and add 1/2 cup of liquid laundry detergent. Place the garment into the basin, and hand wash until clean. Do this quickly and do not allow the velvet to sit in the water for more than one or two minutes. Rinse the garment with cool water. Lay the garment between two large towels, and blot until most of the water is removed. Do not wring the moisture out of the fabric.

Lay the garment flat or hang to air dry.
