How to Replace a Pool Skimmer Basket

The pool skimmer is an important part of your swimming pool's system. The skimmer is responsible for feeding the water into the pool pump. The water first enters the skimmer and runs through a basket, where any debris is caught, such as leaves and bugs. When the skimmer basket is broken, it should be replaced immediately to avoid the leaves and bugs from getting caught in the pool pump and causing damage. A pool skimmer basket can be purchased at your local pool store and replaced in a few steps.

Instructions

1. Disconnect the power from the pool pump. This ensures the pump is not circulating water while you are working on the pool skimmer. Remove the top cover of the skimmer, this should slide right off or pull off, depending on the style.

2. Place your hand in the skimmer and remove the basket by rotating clockwise until the basket unlocks. You will know it has unlocked because you will be able to pull it right out of the skimmer.

3. Replace the basket by placing the basket into the skimmer. Lock the basket back in place by pushing the basket down and turning it counterclockwise until it locks.

4. Reconnect the power to the pool pump and turn the pool system back on.
