1
Check for mold in areas of your home with recent water damage. It appears black or dark green and often looks like spots. Check the severity of the mold and whether it looks like you can scrub it away or whether it goes deep into the surface.
-
2
Make a diluted bleach solution with 1 cup bleach added to 1 gallon water. Put on gloves as well as mouth and nose protection to keep from breathing in mold spores. Lay down plastic sheeting or tarp around the area you will clean.
-
-
3
Pour some of the solution on the mold and let it soak in for at least 15 minutes. Take a scrub brush and scrub the area until the mold starts to disappear. Take care not to ruin the surface of the area you are cleaning.
-
4
Wipe off the area with a towel. You may need to repeat the process a few times before the mold is completely gone.
-
5
Clean up the plastic sheeting you have laid down and dispose of it immediately. Also dispose of the bleach solution, your gloves and towels if you do not have any other areas to clean.
-
6
Run a dehumidifier in the room to prevent mold from coming back, as mold grows in areas with high humidity.
