How to Wash People's Hair Without a Shampoo Bowl

A shampoo bowl, found in salons, is where a person's head will rest while getting his or her hair washed at the salon. You may need to wash a client's or friend's hair in a home that does not contain one of these shampoo bowls. Fortunately, the right type of sink can be substituted for a shampoo bowl. Positioning the person properly around the sink will allow you to wash his or her hair without using a shampoo bowl.

Things You'll Need

• Kitchen or bathroom sink with nozzle
• Chair or stool
• Hair towel
• Shampoo and conditioner

Instructions

1. Find a kitchen or bathroom sink that has a spraying nozzle.

2. Place a chair or stool in front of the sink.

3. Sit the person in front of the sink. Depending on the person's hair, you may need to have him start facing one way and re-position himself once or twice during the washing process.

4. Place a towel around the person's neck. This will make it more comfortable when the person rests her head back into the sink.

5. Have the person tilt his or her head into the sink.

6. Stand at the side of the sink and begin to spray the hair with lukewarm water. You may need to keep the water at a lower pressure so that you do not soak the person.

7. Squirt a quarter-sized amount of shampoo into your hands.

8. Rub your hands together and then run your hands through the person's hair in order to add the shampoo to the hair. You may want to have the person sit up straight while doing this so that he is comfortable as you add the shampoo to the hair.

9. Rinse the person's hair as you did in step 6.

10. Repeat the two previous steps using conditioner.

11. Towel or blow dry the hair. Which one you select will vary based upon how you are styling the hair.
