How to Re-snap a Pool Liner Bead Into a Line Track

A vinyl pool liner is designed to hug the bottom and sides of the pool. The liner is attached to the pool by popping the top of the liner, known as the bead, into a track around the top of the pool. When a pool liner bead pops out of the liner track, getting it back in again is no easy task. Although popping the bead back into the track is a simple matter of lining it up and pushing it in, getting the bead of the liner to reach the track can be difficult. It may be a good idea to call in a professional to fix the problem. If you want to try to fix the liner yourself, this article will tell you how.

Things You'll Need

  • Extension cord
  • Hair dryer
  • Liner lock

How to Re-Snap a Pool Liner Bead Into a Liner Track

  • Allow the water level in the pool to go down at least one foot.

  • Verify that there is no one in the pool and that no one intends to enter the pool while you are working. This step is crucial as you will be using electricity close to the water.

  • Heat the pool liner with the hair dryer. Make sure you hold the hair dryer 12 to 18 inches away from the liner and keep the dryer moving so you do not melt a hole in the liner.

  • When the liner has become warm enough to stretch, pull the liner until the bead is again aligned with the liner track. If the liner cools too much during this process, it will lose its elasticity and need to be heated again.

  • Push the bead into the liner track when the two parts are aligned.

  • Install a liner lock on the pool to prevent the liner bead from coming out again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not reach into the pool if you drop the hair dryer into it while working. Remember that water and electricity make a dangerous combination. Exercise care when using electrical appliances near water.
