How to Make Votive Holders Out of Jars

Homemade gifts can be an inexpensive way to cover everyone on your list. An easy gift to make is a homemade candle holder. Candle holders are useful, easy to make and to personalize, and fairly cheap to produce. Votive candles will fit easily into baby food jars, and the jars make a good candle holder because they can withstand heat, allow the flame to burn, and will hold the melting candle wax.

Things You'll Need

  • Clean, empty baby food jars
  • Glass paint or ribbon (optional)
  • Votive candle

Instructions

    • 1

Clean out the baby food jars and make sure there are no traces of food left inside. If food is lodged inside in the corners, use a wet, soapy washcloth or small toothbrush to loosen the debris and make removal easier.

    • 2

Soak the jars in hot water to get the labels to come off if they do not remove easily when you pull them.

    • 3

Decorate the baby food jars as you desire. Paint the jars or decorate them with rhinestones or ribbon.

    • 4

Allow the jars to dry overnight.

    • 5

Place a votive candle inside the jar. If you use a fairly short votive, it should fit nicely inside the jar. Make sure the candle has some room around it to allow for the melting wax.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't decorate the jars with anything that may catch fire, as an open flame will be nearby.
