How to Mix Cellulose Wallpaper Paste

To ensure that wallpaper sticks to the wall, it is crucial that the wallpaper paste you use is correctly formulated and mixed. If the paste is too thin, thicker wallpaper will not stay stuck to the wall. Following a simple process so that the paste works as a strong adhesive will aid you in properly installing wallpaper.

Things You'll Need

• Dry wallpaper powder
• Clean plastic bucket
• String
• Wooden batten

Instructions

1. Read the instructions on the wallpaper paste that you have purchased. Add the appropriate amount of cold water to the clean bucket.

2. Take 2 feet of string and tie it to the plastic on one side of the bucket where the handle is attached. Pull the string taut and repeat this step on the other side of the bucket. This piece of string will aid you in cleaning of the wooden batten while mixing the paste.

3. Sprinkle the paste powder slowly onto the water while mixing with the wooden batten. Add the powder slowly so not to create a lumpy paste. Continue mixing and adding powder. If lumps of paste begin to build up on your mixing stick, wipe it against the string, and the excess paste will fall back into the bucket.

4. Wait 10 to 20 minutes for the paste to set. After this time has elapsed, give the paste another stir with your cleaned stick. Your paste is ready to use.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't add the powder slowly, it will begin to clump up and be rendered useless.
