Paint markers can be a fun and easy way to decorate shirts and other fabrics, as well as a great tool to use for other art projects. If you accidentally get paint marker on a surface unintentionally, the mark doesn't have to be permanent. Removing paint marker can be accomplished in just a few simple steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Moisten a washcloth or paper towel with nail polish remover.

  2. Step 2

Gently blot the stain with the wet cloth to remove the stain. Blot the area rather than wiping so you do not spread the stain rather than remove it.

  3. Step 3

Repeat steps one and two with denatured alcohol for tougher stains on cloth, such as clothing or carpet. Use paint thinner for tougher stains on metal surfaces.

  4. Step 4

Use an aerosol hairspray on small paint marker stains. Moisten the stain with hairspray and then blot the area with a dry cloth while the stain is still wet with hairspray.

Tips & Warnings
  • Do a "test run" on a small area of hidden area of fabric or carpet before treating the entire stain to ensure the treatment will not ruin the fabric.
