How to Soften Cheap Sheets
Bed sheets can be very expensive, especially if you have several beds. Depending on the size of your bed and the thread count of your sheets, you could be looking at paying several hundreds of dollars for just one set of top and fitted sheets. Instead, you can purchase cheap sheets. Since cheap sheets can be stiff and scratchy, here is a simple way to soften them. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 cup vinegar
- Liquid detergent
- Liquid fabric softener
- Fabric softener sheets

Wash your sheets by themselves on the hottest washer setting. Do not use detergent.

Run the sheets through another wash cycle. Keep the washing machine on the hottest water setting available.

Add 1 cup of vinegar to the washer basin when the rinse cycle begins. The vinegar will help remove chemicals that might be causing your cheap sheets to be stiff.

Wash your sheets on the hottest setting again. But this time, add liquid detergent according to the directions on the bottle.

Add liquid fabric softener to your rinse cycle. The amount of liquid fabric softener you add will depend on the brand. Follow the directions on the back of the liquid fabric bottle.

Put your sheets in the dryer, and add fabric softener sheets. Dry your sheets on the highest heat setting. Repeat the process if your sheets come out of the dryer and still are stiff.

Tips & Warnings
Use unscented fabric softener the first few times. Because you will be using quite a bit, the smell can become overwhelming.
