"Follow Me" is the theme song for "Zoey 101," an original Nickelodeon series. The show was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Children's Program category in 2005. A popular show among young teens, its actors have received numerous awards from Kids' Choice and Young Artist Awards. Jamie Lynn Spears, Britney Spears' little sister, plays the lead role of Zoey and sings the full version of the song. The instrumental version of the song is piano driven and can be heard on the first track on the "Zoey 101 Music Mix" CD.

Place the thumb of your right hand on the G that is the fourth key to the right of Middle C. Rest your fingers on each key in the G position, with the index finger on A, middle finger on B, ring finger on C and pinky on D.

Place the thumb of your right hand on the C that your ring finger was resting on. Rest your fingers on each key in the C position, with your index finger on D, middle finger on E, ring finger on F and pinky on G.

Practice moving back and forth between these two hand positions.

The Melody

Rest your hand in the G position. Play C with your ring finger. Play A twice with your index finger.

Change your hand position quickly from the G to the C position. Play E with your middle finger. Play F with your ring finger. Play E with your middle finger again, followed by D with your index finger.

Quickly change your hand position from the C back to the G position. Play C with your ring finger. Play B with your middle finger. Play C with your ring finger again. Play A with your index finger twice, followed by G with your thumb.

Change your hand position quickly from the G up to the C position. Play E with your middle finger. Play F with your ring finger. Play G with your pinky, followed by D with your index finger.

Quickly change your hand position to the G position. Play C, B, C, A, A and G as you did earlier.

Change your hand position quickly to the C position. Play E, F, E and D as you did earlier.

Change your hand position quickly to the G position. Play C with your ring finger, followed by B with your middle finger. Play C again and hold it twice as long as before. Play A, and hold it as you did with C. Play D and hold it twice as long as the previous two notes.

Playing the Song

Play the melody with your right hand, using the G and C hand positions and following this piano tab:

c>a>|a>>>|efed|>cbc|>a>a|g>>>|efgd|>cbc|>a>a|g>>>|efed|>cbc|>>>>|a>>>|d>>>|>>>>|

Hold the note an extra beat when you see the greater than symbol (“>”). The “|” denotes bar lines of measures. Each measure of this song has four beats.

Place the thumb of your left hand on Middle C. Rest your fingers on each key in the F position, with your index finger on B, middle finger on A, ring finger on G and pinky on F.

Play A with the middle finger of your left hand, and hold it for four beats. Play F with your pinky and hold for four beats. Play C with your thumb and hold for four beats. Play G with your ring finger and hold for four beats. The left hand repeats this pattern three times, followed by a slight variation of the pattern which extends the beats of the third note and eliminates the fourth.

Play the melody with your right hand, accompanied by your left hand using this piano tab:

R.H. c>a>|a>>>|e f e d|>cbc|>a>a|g>>>|e f g d|> cbc|>a >a|g >>>|e f e d|>cbc|>>>>|a>>>|d>>>|>>>>| L.H. a>>>|f >>>|c >>>|g>>>|a>>>|f >>>|c >>>|g >>>|a>>>|f >> >|c >>>|g>>>|a >>>|f>>>|g>>>|>>>>|

Tip

Piano hand positions derive their name from the lowest note in the position. The right-hand thumb rests on that note, as does the left-hand pinky.

Record yourself playing one hand, then practice the other hand, while listening to the recording.

Practice with a metronome set at a slow tempo at first, then increase the speed in small increments each time you play.
