Contrary to popular belief, you don't need to pay to create a website. Several different Web hosts exist on the Internet that will not only host your website, but also provide editing software to let you create a site without any knowledge of HTML.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide what the website will be about. You have several options, such as a personal site, family site or a site about a topic of your choice.

  2. Step 2

Find a free Web host. Two good web hosts are Google Sites and Webs. The sites will allow you to host your website without paying. In return, you'll have ads served on your website.

  3. Step 3

Fill out the registration form for the Web host. Typically, you will need to provide your name, email address, website title and the name of the directory for your site. (For example, if you have Google Sites, and you use testtest as the directory name, your site would be at sites.google.com/site/testtest.)

  4. Step 4

Use the web editor for the host to create your site. The creator is designed to be user friendly and usually provides a system similar to a word processor such as Microsoft Word.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although hosts with site creators do not require you to have knowledge of HTML, consider learning it to gain more power over the way your site is presented on the Internet.
  • If you have a domain name, be sure your Web provider can take it. Many can use a domain name, but may charge you a fee or make you use a paid service to do so.
  • Additionally, the most you will get is either a directory (Google sites) or a subdomain (Webs,) both of which aren't good for search engines. If this is a problem, you may have to consider a paid host.
