How to Get Rid of Rust on Car Paint

Getting rid of rust on car paint is hard. Rust tends to spread rather fast and can hide underneath paint if it begins behind a panel that you cannot see. Since moisture can get to places that are not easy to reach, getting rid of rust as soon as you can is a good idea. For this, you will need rust converter. Rust converter stops rust from spreading, if it is caught quickly enough, and turns it into a paint-able primer. Converter is available at most auto-parts stores or at an auto-paint store.

Instructions

    • 1

Scrub the area that you want to apply rust converter to with a soft-bristle brush. This will remove any loose rust and contaminates on the area you are working on.

    • 2

Apply rust converter to the rusted area. You may need to apply it liberally. Be sure that you cover the entire area.

    • 3

Wipe any excess rust converter off any areas that you do not want converted with a rag.

    • 4

Wait 15 to 30 minutes. The rust converter will turn the rust to a paint-able black primer.
