How to Velcro a Blusher to Your Veil

Traditionally, a blusher--a layer of fabric attached to a veil--covers the bride's face during the wedding ceremony. Some brides like to remove the blusher, but leave the other layers of the veil in place, for photos or the reception. This is easy to do without damaging your hairstyle if the blusher is attached with Velcro®, a type of hook and loop fabric fastener. Once you have your blusher and your veil comb, attaching the Velcro® takes very little time. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a pre-made detached blusher or design and sew your own. If you are sewing your blusher, make certain that the length of the blusher's top seam matches or is slightly shorter than the length of the comb attached to your veil.

    • 2

Purchase clear or color-matched (to the veil color) Velcro® fabric fasteners and thread. Make certain that the width of the Velcro® strips or tape matches the width of the top edge of the comb.

    • 3

Cut a strip of adhesive-backed Velcro® to the length of the blusher's top seam.

    • 4

Pull apart the hook and loop layers of the Velcro® strip and firmly push the hook layer's adhesive backing to the underside of the top edge of the veil comb. Wrap a piece of thread once around this area and through the spaces between the comb's teeth to guarantee that the Velcro® doesn't pull away from the comb when you remove the blusher.

    • 5

Affix the loop layer of the Velcro® strip to the blusher's top seam by firmly pressing the adhesive backing to the underside of the seam. Secure the Velcro® by using thread and a narrow needle to stitch the strip on to the seam. Take care not to tear or stretch the delicate blusher fabric.

    • 6

Press the loop layer to the hook layer to attach your blusher to your veil.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never use hot glue to secure the Velcro® strips to your veil comb or blusher. Hot glue can melt the delicate materials, and burning fabric can release toxic fumes.
