How to Hang Wallpaper Using Paste
Wallpaper is a popular wall covering for any room in the house, including bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchens. The paper is hung with a special paste that should hold up for years if properly applied. While there are plenty of contractors who will hang wallpaper for a fee, wallpapering a room is a project many homeowners can handle on their own. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

Preparing the Strips
-
1
Cut one initial strip of wallpaper. Make the length of the strip 4 inches longer than the height of the wall.
-
2
Line the pattern of the first strip up to the roll of paper and cut the next strip of paper, making sure to leave enough paper at each end to be able to line up the pattern on the wall. This will leave you with at least a couple of inches of extra paper on each end of the strip.

3
Don't cut more than two or three strips at a time. If you make a mistake early on, you will be able to discard the first few strips, while salvaging the rest of the roll.
-
4
Place the first strip of paper on a floor or wide table with the pattern facing down. Lay out only one strip of paper at a time.
-
5
Dip the paste brush into the wallpaper paste and brush it onto the strip, covering the top two-thirds of the paper. Use a thin layer and apply evenly.
-
6
Fold over the end of the strip with the paste, paste side to paste side. Do not crease the paper.
-
7
Brush paste onto the remaining third of the wallpaper strip. Fold that end over as well and wait five to 10 minutes before using the strip.
Hanging the Strips
-
8
Snap a chalk line down the wall at one end of the wall. Align the first strip of paper with this line. Do not align it with the corner or it will not be even.
-
9
Drape the paper over your arm and hold it up to the wall. Unfold the top half once the paper is in position. Overlap 2 inches of the paper at the top of the wall onto the trim or ceiling.
-
10
Line the second strip of wallpaper up with the first strip. Using the same process you used for the first strip, apply paste and affix the strip to the wall.
-
11
Trim off any extra paper at the top and the bottom. This can be done with a razor knife.
-
12
Allow the paper to dry for 15 to 20 minutes. Once dry, use a wallpaper roller to roll over the paper and flatten out the seams. Use only light pressure to keep the paste from squeezing out.

Tips & Warnings
Add food coloring to the paste to tint it. This allows you to notice any spots that have been missed.
Use a new razor blade on the razor knife every few strips for the best results.
