Instructions

    • 1

Determine which mounting option you wish to use for the roller shade. It can be mounted with the brackets on the wooden trim framing the window (outside mount) or on the window casing (inside mount). Inside mounts are hung on the side window casing (side mount) or hanging from the the top window casing that runs parallel to the ceiling and floor (top mount).

    • 2

Select the correct bracket for the mount you chose. Brackets for an inside, side mount are flat and attach flush with the window casing. Outside and top mount brackets stick out from the window frame or casing.

    • 3

Measure the shade with a measuring tape to determine the width. Mark this width on your window casing or trim using a pencil.

    • 4

Align each of the marks you made in Step 3 to ensure they are level. To do so, measure from the top of the window trim or casing to the top of the mark and make a straight line. Use the same procedure to measure from the side of the casing or trim to the line you just made and draw a vertical line (making an upside down L). This will be where you line up the top and side of the mounting brackets.

    • 5

Hold the slotted bracket on the left side of the window so the top and side are flush with the lines you drew in Step 5. Mark the mounting holes in the bracket onto the trim or casing with a pencil. Repeat the process on the right side of the window using the bracket with the round hole. These mounting instructions are the same regardless of the type of mount you chose.

    • 6

Remove the brackets and drill a small pilot hole in the window trim or casing at the pencil marks. This will be where the screws are placed to attach the bracket.

    • 7

Mount the brackets using a screwdriver and screw. The slotted bracket should be located on the the left side of the window and the one with the hole on the right side.

    • 8

Place the shade in the brackets, inserting the round end into the hole first and then the flat end into the slotted bracket.

    • 9

Pull shade half way down to adjust the tension in the spring.

    • 10

Remove the shade from brackets and roll up by hand. Re-insert into mounting brackets.

    • 11

Pull the shade down and test to make sure the tension is as desired. If it is not, readjust the tension by repeating Steps 8 and 9.

Tips & Warnings

  • Read all instructions that accompany the roller shade before starting the process.

  • If your shade does not come with brackets, they can be purchased at a local hardware or department store in the window treatment section.

  • Use a drill bit that is slightly smaller than the screws to create the pilot hole.

  • Be careful not to over adjust the tension or you could permanently damage the spring.
