How to Patch a Hole in a Vinyl Fence

Vinyl fencing is a low-maintenance type of fence. It's stylish and because it's made from a nonporous material, dirt and grime don't stick to it. It can be cleaned with little more than a hose and some mild detergent.

However, sometimes a vinyl fence may get a hole in it. You should determine if the size of the hole warrants simply replacing the panel, or if you should take steps to repair it. Does this Spark an idea?

Things You'll Need

  • Clean towel
  • Water
  • Expanding insulation foam
  • Plastic body filler
  • Medium-grit sandpaper
  • Fine-grit sandpaper
  • Handsaw
  • Spray paint

      Clean the area around the hole with a damp towel.

      Sand an area 2 inches in diameter around the hole with the medium-grit sandpaper.

      Determine if the hole is less than 1.5 inches in diameter. If it is, skip to Step 6. If it's larger than 1.5 inches, proceed to Step 4.

      Slowly spray insulation foam into the hole until the foam begins to ooze out of the hole. Allow this to dry overnight.

      Saw off excess foam.

      Sand the area with the medium-grit sandpaper until the foam is flush with the fence.

      Apply plastic body filler over the hole and allow it to dry for an hour or as directed on the label.

      Sand the area with the fine-grit sandpaper.

      Wipe the area with a clean, damp towel.

      Paint the repaired area to match the rest of the fence.
