How to Make Funky Flowers
Funky tissue paper flowers can brighten up any room and are a snap to craft. For inspiration, explore the late 1960s to 1970s "flower power" theme. For instance, check out funky fashions and fabrics such as disco shirts, mod go-go dresses or Op-art blossom designs. Afterward, sketch out one of the flower patterns to make a start on creating your funky flower. Use bold contrasting colors and experiment with patterns and textures. Decorate them with buttons, seed beads and raffia. Transform flowing, freeform flower designs into a funky flower bouquet.

How to Make Funky Flowers
-
1
Research vintage flower designs in back issues of craft, floral and jewelry magazines such as Creative Needle or American Craft, on fabric and tins. When you find a shape you like, make a copy and cut it out. This will be your template for flower designs, which can easily be enlarged or reduced according to personal preference .

2
Lay out 10 sheets of 20-by-30-inch tissue paper with a sheet of black on oatmeal toile at the top of the stack and one at the bottom of the stack. Between them, alternate three sheets of antique silver crystallized tissue along with three sheets of solid black and two sheets of white tissue paper.
-
-
3
Fold and crease the stack of tissue paper like an accordion, lengthwise in widths of 1.5 inches. Twist a length of black craft wire around the center of the tissue paper.
-
4
Fold the template that you created. Follow the curve on the petals to see how to cut both ends of the tissue paper. Gently pull up one layer at a time of the tissue petals until all of the layers are puffed up and out. Turn the flower over.
-
5
Use a paper punch to fashion the crepe paper fold to resemble lace. Cut the black crepe paper into two four-foot strips and the cream-colored crepe paper into two-foot strips. Use the hanging ends of the craft wire to attach two strips of black and two shorter strips of white crepe paper. Alternately, use fluffy boa feathers instead of the crepe for a fantasy-inspired funky flower.
-
6
Affix an extra large chenille pompom with hot glue at the flower's center. Allow to set and dry. Alternately, craft a pompom out of ribbon or other fibers.
-
7
Take the last remaining ends of the craft wire and wrap it around one end of a green garden stake. Tape the connection using floral stem wrap tape.
