How to Clean Mold or Mildew From Interior Walls

Mold and mildew can accumulate on the interior walls of bathrooms, kitchens, basements and other high-humidity areas. Mold is unsightly, smells unpleasant and can exacerbate allergies and asthma. Because of this, you should clean mildew and mold buildup promptly and thoroughly when you find it. To prevent damaging the paint or wall surface, use a homemade cleaning solution rather than harsh chemical cleaners.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Fill a spray bottle with white vinegar.

  2. Step 2

    Spray the mold or mildew with the vinegar. Wait for 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the severity of the mold buildup.

  3. Step 3

    Wet a sponge in hot or warm water.

  4. Step 4

    Sprinkle the sponge liberally with baking soda.

  5. Step 5

    Scrub the mold until it is gone.

Tips & Warnings
  • Prevent future mold and mildew growth by using a dehumidifier and remembering to turn on bathroom exhaust fans after using the shower.
