Find the maximum pressure rating for the pressure tank. It is usually listed on a sticker or printed on the tank somewhere close to the pressure gauge. Refer to the pressure tank owner's manual if you can't readily locate the rating on the tank.

Test the tank to see what pressure the tank is set at currently. Turn on a bathroom or kitchen sink, and leave it on. Go back to the tank and see what the pressure reads after the pressure pump kicks in. This is the current pressure of the tank. If it reads maximum pressure you may need to contact a professional to adjust the pressure or replace the tank. If the pressure is not at a maximum rating then move to the next step.

Turn off the breaker to the pressure tank. Unplug the pressure tank. Locate the protective cover for the adjustment nut, located next to the pressure gauge. Remove this cover.

Adjust the pressure in the tank. The adjustment nut is located on top of a tall spring. Increase the pressure by turning the nut clockwise. Generally, 1-1/2 turns is equivalent to three pounds of pressure. Refer to the manufacturer's manual for exact specifications for your tank.

Replace the protective cover, and plug the tank back into the wall. Turn the breaker back on. Run the water again to check the pressure.
