How to Get Fingernail Polish Out of Fabric

No matter how careful you are, it's easy to get wet fingernail polish onto fabric. Clothes, carpet and furniture are a few common items that can suffer a fingernail polish accident. While some fabrics such as suede may require special cleaning to remove fingernail polish spills, other fabrics can be treated in your home. Removing fingernail polish from fabric is a simple process and can be accomplished with items you probably already own.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Cotton ball or paper towel
  • Non-acetone-based nail polish remover
  1. Step 1

    Dampen a cotton ball or paper towel with non-acetone-based nail polish remover.

  2. Step 2

    Rub an inconspicuous area of the item to ensure that the nail polish remover won't stain the item. Wait ten minutes and check the area for discoloration.

  3. Step 3

    Dampen a new cotton ball or paper towel with the nail polish remover and dab the nail polish to remove it from the fabric.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you don't have non-acetone nail polish remover, substitute hydrogen peroxide.
