Make a Candy Corn Necklace
Make a Candy Corn Necklace

Autumn is the time for falling leaves, sweaters, and... candy corn!
You can make a candy corn necklace. It's easy to make from polymer clay.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • yellow poly clay
  • orange poly clay
  • white poly clay
  • Poly-clay tools
  • Cord in length of your choice
  • Wet-dry sandpaper
  • Findings to make a clasp
  1. Step 1

Soften six walnut-sized pieces of clay by rolling them in your hands or running through a pasta maker. For candy corn, use one part white, two parts yellow, and three parts orange poly clay. Walnut-sized pieces should give you enough for one necklace.

  2. Step 2

Make the poly clay into three "snakes," one of each color. Make all three snakes the same length.

  3. Step 3

Press them into a single triangle shape, long and thin, with the white point on the top, the orange in the middle, and the yellow across the bottom. Gently shape it until the "side view" is the size and shape you want for a necklace.

  4. Step 4

Cut it into pieces lengthwise, as if you were cutting refrigerator cookies. Now you have candy corn beads.

  5. Step 5

Carefully poke holes straight through the orange middle, across the width of each bead. Ream the holes a little bigger to easily get cord through. (If you wish, set aside two for earrings. Poke holes straight down, from top to bottom.)

  6. Step 6

Cook according to the instructions on the polymer clay packages.
When they're cool, sand them, or leave them as they are.

Slide the beads onto the cord, alternating with round black beads.
If your candy corn string is long enough to slip over your head, knot it and you're finished. If it's shorter, attach fasteners to it and you have a candy corn necklace, or even a bracelet.

Tips & Warnings
  • Polymer clay is "certified non-toxic," but this is controversial. I cook it in my home oven, but in a container that I do not cook in. You may prefer a toaster oven, and you may want to open a window.Keep poly-clay tools (rolling pin, pasta maker, knives, dishes,) separate from food tools.Use common safety-sense. Keep away from children, and wash your hands when finished working with it. (I let my grandchildren play with Play-Doh while I work.) Some kinds of plastic soften when they come in contact with poly-clay. Be careful where you set it.
