Make yoyo lantern Christmas ornaments

Yo-yos are little gathered fabric circles used for quilting and crafts. To make a yo-yo Christmas ornament that looks like a little lantern, you will need two yo-yos. The ornament is sewn completely by hand, so it’s a portable craft you can work on while riding the bus or waiting for an appointment.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Fabric scraps
    • Needle and thread
    • Cotton balls
    • Ribbon or cord for hanger
      • 1

Make a yo-yo by cutting a circle in the size you choose, typically about 3 ½ inches. Sew a running stitch around the circle 1/8 inch from the edge. Pull the stitching to gather it. Once the yo-yo is gathered into a small circle in the center, take a few stitches to tack the gathers.

      • 2

Take two yo-yos and put the flat bottoms together. To make the lantern puffy, add a cotton ball or two in both the top and bottom sections.

      • 3

Stitch only the bottom centers together by tacking by hand with needle and thread.

      • 4

Add a ribbon or cord for a hanger and any trim you choose.
