Self defense is a self protection skill that everyone should learn. You do not need to become a boxer or a karate expert. You can learn a few basic techniques that may help in a time of need. This article will give you a few tips to learn self defense to protect yourself.

  1. Step 1

    First step is to locate a self defense clubs in your area. Self defense could be a martial arts club, a boxing club, a weight lifting club or a basic gym. Visit each club and see what they offer. Ask questions about the programs they offer. Determine the cost. Is a contract required. Let the club know that you are interested in learning self defense only.

  2. Step 2

    Second step is to make a commitment to learn self defense over a 12-month time frame. Learning self defense is not a weekend program nor a 1 month program nor a 3 month program. It takes time to properly learn self defense techniques and to perfect your skills. Schedule specific days and times to take the self defense lessons. Consider self defense training as a second job. Make the commitment and stick with it.

  3. Step 3

    The last step is to become aware of your surroundings. Learning self defense helps you if you are put in a unsafe situation. Knowing your surroundings helps you become aware of where you are at, what is around who, who may be around you. Take steps to avoid unsafe situations. Always go out with a friend, learn how to dial 911 quickly on your cell phone, carry a whistle or small air horn.

  • Learning self defense can be a part of your fitness program.
  • Self defense is a temporary defense. In an unsafe situation you want to learn a quick move or two that will allow you to escape quickly.
