Ever wonder how much rain has fallen on a stormy day? Well wonder no more! This article will teach you how you can measure your own rain!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Funnel
  • Glass Jar
  • Clear Ruler
  • Rain
  1. Step 1
    Storm Clouds
     
    Storm Clouds

    Check your local weather to see if there will be rain on the day that you want to measure.

  2. Step 2
    Glass jar, Funnel, Clear Ruler

    Next make sure you have the materials you will need for this project. Such as a funnel, glass jar and a clear ruler. You can use and old spaghetti sauce jar of that's all you have but be sure to remove the label.

  3. Step 3

    Set the jar outside in an area that is free from anything that might keep the rain from falling into the jar. Perhaps in the middle of the yard on a steady surface.

  4. Step 4

    Place the funnel in the jar and let the rain fall into it. Leave it until the rain has stopped.

  5. Step 5
    Clear Sky
     
    Clear Sky

    Once the rain has stopped use the clear rule and dip it into the jar all the way to the bottom and measure how many inches of water are in the jar.

  6. Step 6
    Plant
     
    Plant

    Once you have recorded your information why not use that rain to water the plants inside your house!

Tips & Warnings
  • Have fun!
  • A rain gauge is know as a Pluviometer!
  • Do not do this if there are severe thunder storm warnings!
