How to Remove the Google Search Engine Redirect and Spyware Scanner Blocking Virus
The Google search engine redirect and spy ware scanner blocking virus is not actually a virus but is a form of malware. In fact, it's three separate parts of malware that all work in conjunction together to keep each other going even after you manage to delete one. If your spy ware and virus scanners are being blocked, and they most likely are, then you are probably scared and have no idea what to do with your computer. To make matters worse, you probably get stuck in an infinite reboot cycle for a while if you try to run a virus scanner in safe mode. Don't worry; you can save your computer without reformatting!
Things You'll Need
- internet access
- virus scanning software
- Additional virus scanning software (optional)

1
Print or write down these directions as you will need to close down all windows at some point, including this one.
-
2
Delete the entire 'Temp' folder on your computer; delete both the system temp folder and the Internet temp folders. If you check in one before deleting it it probably has a folder in it titled 'congac' or something similar. After deleting it and deleting it from the recycling bin, you can create a new folder and name it temp to replace the deleted one. If you do this now, open the new folder to be sure it remains empty.

3
Download a new version of the virus scanner you currently have. Do not try to run the one you have installed now, as the .exe file is corrupted and even with administrative rights you cannot delete it easily. If your virus scanner is not being blocked and is still not finding anything despite the Google redirect problem then you need a new virus scanner. Consider Spybot, SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes or similar free programs.
-
4
Install the new scanner under a new file name. Just add a 1 to the end of it if you'd like.
-
5
Update the virus definitions.
-
6
Close down all windows and disconnect from the internet.
-
7
Run the virus scanner. This process may take some time so be patient.
-
8
If necessary, confirm that you'd like to remove all threats detected. Only make exceptions for things you know what are. Some free programs have parts necessary to run that will be caught up, but it's best to delete it if you aren't sure. You can re-download something later if necessary.
-
9
Reboot your computer immediately after the virus scanner confirms that it has removed the viruses, malware, spyware, etc. that were found.
-
10
Run the virus scanner again. Most likely there will be a threat found in a system file that cannot be removed. If so, go to the next step, if not, you're done and clean. Consider doing a scan with a couple different virus scanners just to be sure.
-
11
If you found a system file threat or another threat that cannot be removed then you need to contact a professional to help guide you. There are many malware and virus forums where someone can read your scanning logs and help you for free.

12
To be prepared, download a program like Smitfraudfix or Combofix. Only use these with the help and guidance of a professional and even then read the instructions very carefully to avoid any problems. These are very powerful programs and can strip your computer if not used properly.

Tips & Warnings
If the search engine is redirecting to a scammy looking search engine site then you can get around this by copying and pasting the address beneath the search results. Pasting them into the URL bar will stop the redirect.
Do not go into safe mode to run your virus scanner. This is normally a good idea, but it can set your computer on an infinite reboot loop with this particular malware set. You can run a check in safe mode after completing the steps above without fear.
Do NOT EVER run a program like Smitfraudfix or Combofix by yourself.
