Dreadlocks is a type of natural hairstyle. Dreadlocks these days can be made look neat and gorgeous and can also be styled in many different ways. There are many locking techniques that you can use to make your dreadlocks. Before you decide to dreadlock your hair, consult with a loctician so that you can be aware of the pros and cons of having dreadlocks. If you decide to go ahead and dreadlock your hair, these are the steps you can follow.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • fine tooth rattail comb
  • Hooded dryer
  • hair clips
  • spray bottle of water
  • oil
  • loc gel without alcohol
  • loc cream
  1. Step 1

    If you are making your dreadlocks using the palm roll technique, wash your natural hair first and part the hair into a small section. Apply locking lotion to the section of hair. Start rolling the hair in between your palms and start rolling your palms together moving one hand over the other. Continue doing this for the entire length of the hair. Repeat the same process on the whole head. Use the hair clips to hold the palm rolled hair. When you are done, sit under a hooded dryer to set the dreadlocks.

  2. Step 2

    If you decide to make your dreadlocks using the two strand twists, first wash your hair and part it into small sections. Apply locking lotion to the section of the hair you are about to twist. Separate the section of hair into two pieces. Twist them around each other for the entire length of the hair. Use a hair clip to hold the twisted hair in place. Proceed to the next section of hair and repeat the same process. When you are done, sit under a hooded dryer to set the dreadlocks

  3. Step 3

    Dreadlocks can also be made using the comb technique. Wash your hair and part it into small sections. Part the hair into small sections. Apply locking lotion to each section of hair. Use a comb to coil the sections of hair one at a time. Use hair clips to hold the coiled sections. When you are done, sit under a hooded dryer to set the dreadlocks

Tips & Warnings
  • Before you sleep, tie a satin wrap on your head to maintain your dreadlocks.
  • Avoid getting the hair wet for 3-4 weeks unless a loctician advises you too
  • have your dreadlocks cared for regularly so that they can look neat
