Things You'll Need:
- oil
- oil filter wrench
- funnel
- container to catch the oil
- clean rag
- new oil filter
-
Step 1
Consult your car's manual to figure out how much motor oil is needed.
-
Step 2
Make sure that that you have all of your needed supplies close at hand before even starting the oil change.
-
Step 3
Locate the drain plug. The drain plug looks like a large nut or bolt and you will find it at the bottom of your oil pan.
-
Step 4
Put a drain pan under the oil pan to catch the old motor oil.
-
Step 5
Remove the drain plug and let the old motor oil drain into your recycling container. Be sure to keep some old rags close by to wipe your hands on as an oil change can get a little messy. Be sure to replace the drain plug after all of the oil has drained out.
-
Step 6
Now you will need to change the oil filter. To do this you will need to twist it counterclockwise, taking care to not spill any of the oil inside the filter.
-
Step 7
Next empty the oil from the old filter into your drain pan and then set the drain pan and old filter aside to be taken to the recycling center. If needed you can wrap the filter in old newspapers. This will help to cut down on any mess that the old motor oil may cause.
-
Step 8
Use a little of your fresh motor oil to moisten the gasket which is on top of the new fuel filter. And then add a little fresh oil to the new filter until it is approx. 2/3 full.
-
Step 9
Carefully screw on the filter and using your funnel slowly add your fresh motor oil.
