Step 1
Bring your own drinks and snacks. A bag of candy for $4, Popcorn for $5, and don’t forget about getting a drink! Often times, your trip to the snack counter is more money than admission. Instead of getting gauged for overpriced goodies, bring your own! Bring a large purse and stuff with drinks, candy, and even your own home popped popcorn!
-
Step 2
Catch an early movie! Matinee’s are normally significantly cheaper. Why not do a movie and dinner instead of dinner and a movie? Change things up a little so you don’t have to feel bad about splurging for dinner.
-
Step 3
Use all available discounts. Got a student in your group? Are you a senior citizen? Make sure to take advantage of all the available discounts! Student ID cards normally do not have an expiration—use that ID card until you don’t look like your picture any more! Seniors, don’t be embarrassed about your age, use it to your benefit! Does the theater of your choice have a frequent movie watcher program? Look into other movie watcher benefits so that you can be aware of all possible discounts or promotions!

Step 4
Purchase your tickets in advance or online. Sometimes theaters will allow you to purchase tickets online or in advance at a discounted rate. Be sure to check their website before heading to your flick.
-
Step 5
See if there’s a theater in your area playing older films at deeply discounted prices. “Dollar Theaters” can be a fun (and cheap!) family outing to see that movie you never got a chance to see.
