How to Make a Pumpkin Pie Crust From Scratch

You have read the other two articles I have written about how to make Pumpkin Pie and how to prepare a Pumpkin for Pumpkin Pie, well now you need to learn how to make the crust for the Pumpkin Pie. This is the easiest part of the entire process.

Difficulty: Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1/3 cup cold water
3/4 cup vegetable shortening
Wax paper

Step 1

Mix the flour and Shortening together in a bowl. This works better if you have a mixer to start with then you will need to use your hands.
Step 2

Add in the water only a little at a time. Too much will make it runny. Mix everything together until you have reached a good doughy consistency.
Step 3

Once you have done this you need to place the dough on a sheet of wax paper. Then cover it with another sheet. Use your rolling pin to roll out the dough into a flat sheet.
Step 4

Refrigerate for two hours or so. This works best if you start with this first before you do anything else with the pumpkin.
Step 5

Once you are done with everything else or are waiting for the pumpkin to cool you can pull out your crust from the fridge, and start to put it in the pie pan. Shaping the crust is easy if you have a pan that has the curled edges built in to the pan you would just shape it to the pan. But if not. All you need to do is roll the edges up and push the crust down about a finger size apart so you get that wonderful look.

fill the crust with your pie mix and you are good to go. This isn't just for pumpkin pie you can use this recipe for just about any other recipe.
