Keep kids occupied so they don't climb the walls!

Even when it's cold outside, kids want to play! Keep the younger ones entertained inside -- whether it's raining, snowing, or you just don't feel like going out!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Several stones or buttons
  • Pots and pans
  • Pair of tongs
  • Several small objects
  • Dress-Up Clothes
  1. Step 1

Copy Bug -- Tell the children to copy your clapping as you clap in different ways. You can try fast, slow, loud, soft, etc. Once the kids catch on, have them take turns being the "Leader Bug" while you join in to be a "Copy Bug".

  2. Step 2

Pick Up -- One child picks up one objects, such a small plastic doll, with the tongs and places it in the pot/pan. At that pot/pan, there are other objects to pick up and take to another box, and so on. These pans can be set up in different areas - one in each corner, or a few in each room. For older kids, time them to see how long it takes them to get through the entire "course". If there is more than one child, let them compare their times.

  3. Step 3

Human Letters -- Draw a letter on the board (or paper) for all the kids to see. Then ask them to work together to make the letters. If it's a letter such as "T", two children can work together. On letters like "N", you can have all three work together. If you only have one child at home, work with them to create the letters. Try to spell out their name, one letter at a time. Have someone take pictures for the scrapbook.

  4. Step 4

Toss It -- Set up boundary lines for the children to stand behind, give them a ball to try and throw into an empty trash can. As they succeed, move the boundary line farther from the target. Use smaller or larger balls to develop their skills.

  5. Step 5

If all else fails, play Dress Up! Get some of your old t-shirts (or even nicer clothes) out for the kids to try on. This one is our favorite!

Tips & Warnings
  • Use your imagination!
  • Join in on the fun -- no matter what game the kids are playing, it's always more fun if you join in.
  • Don't get upset if they don't "understand" the game, or they do it "wrong". Be patient and just remember to have fun.
