Putting a new chain on your Husqvarna chainsaw is a relatively simple process. All you need is a replacement chain and a chainsaw scrench -- a combination socket/screwdriver tool.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Husqvarna chainsaw
  • Replacement chain
  • Scrench
  1. Step 1

Use a scrench to remove the bar nuts. Make sure the chain brake is disengaged when you do this.

  2. Step 2

Remove the clutch cover and the transportation ring.

  3. Step 3

Slide the bar back toward the drive sprocket and remove the chain.

  4. Step 4

With the bar as far back as possible, place the new chain over the drive sprocket and bar.

  5. Step 5

Slide the bar forward, making sure the chain's drive links are inside the bar groove.

  6. Step 6

Put the clutch cover back on. Replace the bar nuts, but only tighten them hand-tight.

  7. Step 7

Turn the chain tensioning screw with the screwdriver end of the scrench. The tension is right when the chain does not sag off the bottom of the bar but turns freely by hand.

  8. Step 8

Tighten the bar nuts with the scrench, and you're ready to go.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always wear gloves when handling a chainsaw chain. The cutters are sharp and can cause injury even when the chain is not moving.
