How to Relieve Sinus Pressure Behind One Eye

If you have ever had a pounding headache and it feels like your eyeball is about to come bursting out of your head, it's probably a sign that you have a horrible sinus infection. A sinus infection is an inflammation of the membranes inside your nasal cavity. They can become irritated by bacteria, different climates of weather or commom colds. How to Relieve Sinus Pressure Behind One Eye

Step 1

Acupressure (Sinus Pressure Points). This is a technique that is based on the idea that there are places on the skin that are sensitive to bioelectric impulses. Stimulating these points with pressure can relieve both pain and tension in the head and behind the eyes. To release pressure that has built up in your nasal cavity, place your hands on both sides of your face, the area between the corner of your eye and the bottom of your eyebrown and massage. Massaging these points repeatedly will bring relief to your eye sockets and will help the sinus pressure you are experiencing.

Step 2

Use Alfalfa Tablets to dry up your sinuses, which is associated with the pressure you are experiencing behind your eye. Alfalfa is a medicinal herb that has been used for many years in curing asthma and other health problems. Alfalfa can be found at your local general nutrition store. It is your preference whether you want to use the tablet, fresh or dried leaf. If you choose to use the dried leaves, use one ounce in a pint of water and boil for about 20 minutes. Drink 2 cups daily.

Step 3

Massage. A good facial massage technique can help get rid of the pressure behind your eyes. It is very simple. Find the point just below the cheekbone and then level with the pupil of your eye. Looking straight ahead, press in the upward motion. Repeat this massage a few times throughout the day. Also, you can apply pressure to your forehead with your thumb just over the eyebrow and massage repeatedly. This helps relieve the pressure around your head that is causing the pain behind your eyes.

Step 4

Buy a humidifier. A humidifier is a home appliance that increases moisture in the air. They relieve congestion and dry nasal passages. Increasing the moisture in the air can alleviate the stress that is causing the sinus pressure, specifically the pressure you are feeling behind your eye. Humidifiers are not expensive and you can find them at any retail store.

Step 5

Seek medical care. The splitting pain behind your eye may not go away with certain over the counter medications. Call your physician immediately if the pain behind your eye persists. Severe sinus pressure could impair your ability to see and also drive.
