How to Make Wedding Tea Lights
Homemade tea lights are a romantic touch for weddings, whether they're part of the ceremony decor, an addition to reception table settings or a special gift for your attendants. They're easy to make and to customize in just a few hours, making them a good project for do-it-yourself brides.

- Tea light holder
- Wick
- Scissors
- Microwave-safe glass container
- Beeswax pellets
- Essential oil

Trim your wick so that it is slightly taller than the tea light holder.

Melt a pellet of beeswax in the microwave and pour a little into the bottom of the tea light holder. Firmly press the trimmed wick into the warm wax until the wax has cooled and the wick is securely in place. Repeat for as many tea lights as you need to make.

Add a generous handful of beeswax pellets to the microwave-safe container, sprinkle with a few drops of essential oil and put the pellets in the microwave until just melted, about 20 to 30 seconds.

Pour the melted beeswax into the tea light holders until they are filled to just below the top of holder.

Repeat as needed to fill all tea lights. Let the tea lights cool.

Tips & Warnings
Add food coloring to the beeswax pellets to create custom-colored tea lights. If you want to add visual interest to clear tea light holders, layer different colors of beeswax by partially filling a container with one color of beeswax, letting it dry completely, then pouring another color on top of the first layer. Consider using recycled containers, such as empty baby food jars, to house your tea lights. If the prospect of melting wax makes you nervous, fill the containers with whole pellets. They'll burn just as well as the melted ones.
Never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep a close eye on your beeswax while it's melting to be sure it doesn't damage your cup or microwave.
