Make Your Own Curtains
-
1
Measure your fabric. When you make your own curtains, your fabric should measure approximately six inches longer than the height of your windows and approximately 1.5 to 2 times the width of the window. Measure your fabric to this size and cut it.
-
2
Seam the sides. If the sides of your fabric are rough or uneven, sew a simple seam by folding the edges in approximately one inch and sewing a seam or gluing one using no-sew fabric stitch glue (available at craft and sewing stores).

3
Create a top seam. You will need to create a pocket for your curtain rod; you can do this by folding over the top of your fabric and sewing or gluing a seam. You can make one simple seam, or you can create two and slide the rod between them; the choice is up to you. If you choose to make two seams, make sure the "pocket" between them is wide enough for your rod to fit inside of it.
-
4
Create a bottom hem. You will want the bottom edge of your fabric to be neat, so fold up the bottom an inch or two and create another seam to hem it. Again, you can choose to sew this seam or use the no-sew glue option.
-
5
Hang your curtains. Thread the curtain rod through your top seam(s) and hang on your windows. You can add ribbon for a tied look, or leave them to hang straight down.
