How to Grow a Jade Plant in the Bathroom

Jade plants are succulents, which makes them relatively easy to care for. They grow best in bright light and low humidity, and are popular, clean indoor plants. Most jade plants don't require trimming or pruning for their health. These plants can be kept quite small and are sometimes used for banzai purposes. To keep and grow a jade plant in your home, follow a couple easy steps.

Instructions

1. Plant your jade plant in a small pot with porous soil for good drainage.

2. Water the new plant generously. Allow the soil to dry slightly between future waterings. A good rule of thumb is to water the jade plant once a week.

3. Fertilize your jade plant once every two weeks. Use a 10-20-10 or 5-10-5 fertilizer, or African violet food. Follow the instructions on the label for mixing and feeding the fertilizer.

4. Keep your jade plant in an area that gets bright light and a consistent temperature. Jades do best at 75 to 85 degrees during the day and 55 degrees at night.

Tips & Warnings

• If you keep your jade plant in a small pot, it will stay small for several years.
• Frost and cold temperatures will kill jade plants. If they're not used to the sun, jade plants can burn in direct sunlight.
