How to Make Organza Flowers

Organza flowers are created from delicate, sheer fabric with a shimmer to it. They work well for decoration, whether on a plain window curtain or a dress that needs a few accents to spruce it up. Organza flowers are simple to make and take only a few minutes to complete.

Things You'll Need

  • 2 to 3 feet of organza fabric
  • Candle
  • Needle

Instructions

    • 1

Cut six petals from the organza fabric, making the first three about three inches in diameter and the last three between one and two inches. Cut them as circles, ovals or more petal-like shapes. The pieces can be a few inches larger for larger flowers.

    • 2

Make the petals curl inward, by holding each of them two inches above a candle flame. If the petals are curling in too quickly move up another inch. Use tweezers if the heat is too hot on your hand. Rotate the petal so that all edges heat up and bend inward. If the edges bend outward toward you, take the petal away from the candle and pull the edge back down. Repeat this for each flower petal.

    • 3

Stack the petals on top of each other, with the larger petals on the bottom. Heat the top petals more if they are not small enough to stack.

    • 4

Thread a needle with thread the same color as the fabric, and insert the needle in the center of the flower from the bottom. Push the needle through all the petals. When you reach the top, pull the needle out and string three beads onto the thread.

    • 5

Push the needle back down through to the bottom layer, and come back up to the top again. This secures the beads in place. String three more beads and repeat. Do this one more time, if necessary, to create the center of the flower. Tie the string in a secure knot and cut off the excess.

Tips & Warnings

  • If your flower is too small, cut out more petals to heat and add on before sewing.
